NAME: Lucius Malfoy
AGE:43
BIRTHDATE: exact date unknown
HOUSE: Slytherin
Lucius Malfoy is definitely one of the bad guys. A pureblood wizard, he hates anyone who is half-blood or muggle-born. This is ironic since Voldemort himself is a half-blood and Lucius is one of his dedicated followers. Purebloods are increasingly hard to find, therefor many intermarry. This brings up interesting connections among purebloods. Lucius married a cousin of Sirius Black, Narcissa Black. Narcissa is also related to Bellatrix Lestrange and Nymphadora Tonks. Lucius and Narcissa have only one child, a son named Draco, who is the same year as Harry and his friends at Hogwarts, and who is their nemesis among the students.
Lucius, like everyone else in his family, was in Slytherin while at Hogwarts. Once he finished school, it is believed that he quickly became one of Voldemort's followers. It is said that he specialized in torture, which is easy to imagine. Lucius is not only a powerful wizard because of his magical skills, he is also influential in the ministry because of his wallet size. When all other Deatheaters were put in prison after Voldemort's fall, it is believed that Lucius bought his way free of Azkaban.
Lucius has never made it a secret that he dislikes those who are not purebloods. He has an open contempt for the Weasleys (which he obviously passed on to his son Draco) and despises Harry Potter. At the end of Chamber of Secrets, he even threatens Harry when he realizes that Harry has tricked him into freeing his House Elf, Dobby. At the beginning of Chamber of Secrets, Lucius is the one who slips Tom Riddle's diary into Ginny Weasley's cauldron, which led to the second opening of the Chamber of Secrets.
In later books, Lucius plays a bigger and bigger part. This is understandable as he has remained loyal to Voldemort over the years and was eager to help him regain his power. Lucius was one of the Deatheaters at the Quidditch World Cup who tortured the campground manager and his family. Lucius was also in the graveyard at the end of Goblet of Fire when Voldemort regained his body. Look for Lucius to truly show his evil side in the upcoming movies (you non-book readers!) and to get at least part of what he deserves in Half-Blood Prince.
