I have always been fascinated by the thought of settling other worlds. I guess its the ultimate Far Away Place. I usally pick up any novels I see on the subject and I've read several about Mars. On a trip a couple of years ago to the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama www.spacecamp.com/museum/I noticed that they were building a large section dedicated to the settlement of Mars. Until that point I never thought that it would happen in my lifetime. Now I believe there may be a chance that this generation may see people living on the Red Planet. What do you think it might be like, will it be difficult to survive or will mankind adapt to another world seamlessly? Someday people may be born on Mars, people may vote and make laws on Mars. And surely people will die on Mars, will it all be worth it? This is your's truly climbing the Mars wall at the space center in Alabama below is a link to NASA's Mars exploration program marsprogram.jpl.nasa.gov/

I also believe that mankind will set foot on Mars in our lifetime. It is fun to think of being a pioneer on another world but I don't know if we'll ever set up cities or even governments there. You are right about one thing people will surely die there.

I wonder if everything will go as planned or will many problems arise. I hope it goes smoothly and flourishes.

Only you Paul Yes that's really me. I made it to the top on several of the paths on the wall. The path in the pic is the hardest one and I couldn't reach the last hold but I was only a few feet from the top. Not bad for an old man huh?

Fabio Sau, a University of North Dakota student, tests a new Mars exploration suit in the Badlands. The 47 pound prototype took 20 minutes to put on.

Red Colony is an international symposium devoted to developing methods for colonizing and terraforming Mars. The website has tons of info on the settlement of Mars including ultra-cool Martian Pics of the Day like the one below. Red Colony Mission Statement 1. To educate and to inform - To educate the general public about the advantages and possibilities of terraforming and colonizing Mars and our solar system. To remove the science-fiction connotation of the concepts of terraformation and colonization and to advocate these ideas. To inform the private sector as to the benefits that investment in Mars colonization offers, and to initiate a popular Mars colonization movement. 2. To develop and to debate - To act as a forum for the greatest minds in Mars colonization and terraforming. To offer colonization and terraforming enthusiasts, novices and experts, the opportunity to share their ideas and theories online and in small groups. To develop and advocate new theories about colonization and terraforming. To see that all developed theories regarding terraforming and colonization are considered. To publish these theories online and in scientific literature.
