(prepares to be flamed) I absolutely loved these movies, especially the third one. But the books - I've tried several times to get into them and I just can't do it. The subject matter is amazing and I am so grateful for what Tolkien has done for the sci-fi genre... but the books just don't do for me what the movies do. Is there anyone else that likes the films better or is it just me

I like the books better, probably because I read them as a kid like 100 times. But I will admit that the LOTR movies are the best movies based on a book that I have ever saw.

I agree with you, Mr. Teach. I never could get into the books either... too much random stuff. But I loved the movies. I liked the second one the best, especially the battle at Helm's Deep!

I liked the movies too. It was just neat to see everything that was in the books.

I liked the books better, I guess cause I read them so early and loved them from early on. Not to say the movies weren't great - they were awesome! - but the books are the real thing.

yeah, that's how I feel too. the movies left out some wonderful things. I would have loved to see the movies be just like the books, even it had made the movies a total of twenty hours. I would have watched them... they are that good.
for having consolodated so much into the time they had, I don't think the movies could have been any better, I loved them! I just hate that people who won't read the books will miss out on some wonderful things...

Hmm... You just had to ask that question, did you, MiB? LOL There´s two scenarios to that answer. If I´m looking for something to do if I´m bored at home I reach for my LOTR DVD´s. I think they´re an excellent example of a book to movies move done right. Peter Jackson got to all the right locations, and he managed to get all the right actors. Please don´t laugh, but I actually saw the first movie five! times, the second movie three times, and the third movie seven! times... LOL But no, I didn´t go dressed as Gandalf, a hobbit or any other character. ROFL. However, if I´m on a plane, a train or just sitting outside a warm summer´s day I grab a LOTR book from the bookshelf rather than any of my other books. They´re masterpieces. Does that answer your question?

I'm going to need to buy a new set because I've burned those babies up! Hey MIB! That's how you can pay me! Send me LOTR on Dvd!
